Feeling a little sultry in this little number from Mimi G’s collection for Simplicity. Let’s get a close up view.
This is Simplicity S8639 described as a figure-flattering knit dress from Mimi G Style that features a peek-a-boo front slit, elastic ruching, and an invisible center back zipper.
The fabric I used was a beautiful teal scuba knit and grey mesh lining from Minerva Crafts.
Due to to how fitted this dress was going to be I cut a straight 14. For reference my body measurements are 34-29-40
The pattern only contains 5 pieces, the only difference is the length between views A and B
Originally I was going to go for the peekaboo design but no matter how closely I followed the instructions on paper and on video, I couldn’t get it to lay as flat as how Mimi does it. I think that may be down to the fabric I chose rather than the instructions. So I chose to close that up which Mimi tells you how to do if you want to. I also decided to omit the invisible zipper as I was quite confident that the fabric would be stretchy enough.
This was my first time working with a mesh lining and to be honest it’s not my finest work. I had issues attaching together with a zig zag stitch and as a result it does peek out of the armhole slightly. I do wish I went for a black rather than grey as it wouldn’t have been that noticeable.
I also found that I had a little gaping in the armholes which I pinched out and stitched from the inside. A point to remember measure the pattern before making the final garment.
What I love about Mimi’s patterns is that she drafts really cute garments. I love how it can fit and flatter your shape and can make little to almost no alterations. The videos that accompany her patterns are the greatest help when I can visualise a particular step in the process. As for this dress, I make it again but I’m happy with just the one for now.
