So another week has finally come to a close, we’ve made it once again to the weekend!
We are fast flying through my #prettyinprint showcase. We are now at outfit #4 already and I’m really excited to talk about this pretty little number fresh off of the sewing table, McCall’s M7683.
This is a pattern of dresses ranging from off the shoulder to one shoulder bodices with various skirt options. It also gives you the option of creating different looks by mixing up the bodices to the skirts. I decided to cut out the one shoulder that came with a ruffle (view 1) and the straight skirt (view 5).
The fabric I chose was a beautiful floral Scuba knit from Walthamstow Market.
During the construction process I could see that the straight skirt was a little too long for me but I also wanted to keep the side slit, so I shortened the skirt to a knee length view. Luckily I was able to keep in some of the slit without it being too short.
I also ended up not including the elasticated waistband, I just felt it wasn’t really needed as the fabric was quite stretchy anyway.
The instructions are very easy to follow and I don’t think any beginner should have difficulty in piecing this up together. If you are new to sewing, I would definitely recommend using a walking presser foot as well as purchasing ball point needles for your sewing machine when sewing with a knit. Trust me you will immediately see the difference in the finished dress.
I think I would definitely sew this up again, possibly even making it for someone if they wanted it.
Let me know what you guys think!
